Terms of use
Last updated: 12 October 2026
These terms apply when you use WhichDance. They are short.
Who we are
WhichDance is an app by Thomas Oomens, a sole trader using the name HonestDev. Address: Regulierstraat 43 J, 6511 DN Nijmegen, the Netherlands. KvK (Dutch trade register) number: 52326470. You can email us at [email protected].
What WhichDance does
WhichDance listens to music through the microphone of your phone and measures the tempo in beats per minute, the measures per minute and the meter. It then names the dance that is likely and any dance that is possible. The ten ballroom dances come first: waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slowfox, quickstep, samba, cha-cha, rumba, paso doble and jive. Social dances such as salsa, bachata, kizomba, merengue, zouk, cumbia, discofox, west coast swing and lindy hop follow. The app works on iPhone and Android. There is no account.
Free listens and the subscription
- Every day you get 3 listens for free. The app tells you when the day's 3 free listens are used up. Listens you do not use do not carry over to the next day.
- A subscription removes the cap. It is monthly or yearly, and you see the price in the app before you buy.
- You buy and pay in the App Store or in Google Play. The subscription belongs to your Apple or Google account, not to the phone. On a new phone, sign in to the same store account and tap Restore purchases in the app.
- A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it.
- You cancel in your Apple ID settings or in Google Play. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date and you will not pay for the next period.
- Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Cancel it first.
- Refunds go through Apple or Google, under their rules.
The terms of Apple or Google also apply to your purchase. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement applies as well.
Fair use
- Use WhichDance for music you are allowed to listen to, in places where you are allowed to use a microphone.
- The app hears the people around you while it listens. Follow the law and respect their privacy.
- Do not take the app apart, copy it or resell it. Do not use scripts or tricks to get around the daily cap.
- If there is abuse, we may limit or end your access.
The result can be wrong
WhichDance measures tempo and meter and compares them with the ranges teachers and competition rules use. Many dances share a tempo, and music counted at half or double speed fits a different dance. That is why the app shows one dance as likely and others as possible. Treat the result as a suggestion. On a competition floor or at a wedding, check with the teacher, the DJ or the couple.
Availability
We do our best to keep WhichDance working well. Listening happens on your phone, but checking a subscription needs the internet and the stores of Apple and Google. We may change features or stop the service. If we stop, we will let you know in good time.
Liability
We are not liable for damage caused by a wrong result or by the app not working for a while. If we are liable after all, it is at most for the amount you paid for WhichDance in the 12 months before. This does not apply in case of intent or gross negligence. Your rights as a consumer always remain.
Your data
How we handle your data is in the privacy policy. There is no account to delete. The page Delete your data explains what deleting the app removes and what the stores keep.
Changes
We may change these terms. We announce important changes in advance. If you keep using WhichDance after that, the new terms apply.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Do you have a complaint? Email us first at [email protected] and we will look for a solution together. If that does not work, the competent court in the Netherlands decides. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of the consumer law in your own country.
